What Does Croque-Madame Recipe Contain?
Everything you need to prepare a traditional croque-madame is right here.
Bread: Use somewhat soft bread and not too thick for your sandwich. Use your favorite sourdough or white sandwich bread, or slice some brioche or country-style bread.
Ham: Use thinly sliced leftover cooked ham or good-quality deli ham for these sandwiches. A fantastic option is jambon de Paris in the French manner.
Bechamel Sause: Though it just consists of butter, flour, milk, and a few seasonings, bechamel sauce is a simple white sauce that is much more than the sum of its components. The traditional croque-monsieur and croque madame recipe are enhanced by its amazing creaminess.
Cheese: Nutty Gruyère cheese and occasionally Parmesan cheese, like in this recipe, are commonly used in croque-monsieur and croque-madame recipes. To make the béchamel resemble a mornay sauce, add cheese to it. Add all of the Parmesan and half of the Gruyère and mix gently. The remaining grated Gruyère is sprinkled into the sandwich next to produce a melting and oozy layer of deliciousness.
Dijon Mustard: Spreading Dijon mustard on the sandwich is optional; however, it contrasts with all the rich flavors.
Butter: For the béchamel, as well as to cook the sandwiches and fried eggs, unsalted butter is required. Because of how much butter is used in the dish, it’s rather delicious.
Fried Egg: The main ingredient to include in Croque Madame recipe is to add a fried egg topping along with the bread, ham, cheese, and creamy sauce of the croque-monsieur. This sandwich is made even more abundant by the runny yolk. However, you can fry the eggs in any way you prefer.
